Volunteer Opportunities Here in West Houston to Help Those Suffering in the Wake of Harvey

West Houston was dramatically impacted by the flooding brought by Hurricane Harvey and many members of our community have asked how they can help their neighbors in the recovery process.

The need for volunteers will be ongoing and there are many national organizations with great reputations, like Red Cross and United Way, who continue to rely on Houstonians in the recovery process. However, there are plenty of local opportunities to volunteer here in our community. Volunteers are performing manual labor and cleaning out flooded homes but have also stepped up to help with simple, everyday tasks that have suddenly become enormous burdens to those faced with flood damage. These tasks include cleaning,
laundry, pet care, food delivery and food prep,  phone calls, childcare, driving and short errands, and prayer and spiritual support.

This type of neighborhood support is essential to our immediate recovery, and important to our long-term growth as a community. If you know of any other volunteer opportunities, please contact my office, we will share them. In the meantime, I hope everyone can find a way, no matter how small, to help those in need as we work our way through this destruction.

I’ll be joining other volunteers from the Westchase District on Wednesday, 9/20 as we work to clean flood damaged homes in West Houston.  We will be out from noon-6pm.  You can call 712-780-9434 for details if you are interested in joining us for all or part of the day. As always, if my State Office can be of any assistance, please contact us.

It is an honor to serve you,
